Viyella was first woven in England in 1893 by William Hollins & Co from a blend of 55% wool and 45% cotton in a twill weave.   The first ready-made garments using Viyella were shirts and nightgowns, and soon came dresses, slips and other clothing.  It was cloth that your causal cold-weather shirts were made out of--and because of its softness, warmth, and coziness, it was almost certainly the material that your favourite cold-weather shirt was made from!

The old version has been replaced by a modern "Viyella" blend of 80% cotton and 20% wool.
